Hi there Phil,

Might l suggest a 'Talking Timer' in addition to the two stopwatches.
The attached link will take you to the RNIB web site and they have a unit identical to the one that l currently use.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for the info and link, John Penton did show me one, but did not know how he came by it, I suggested the RNIB logo on the unit could be clue.

So thats

B&Q for the 8mm steel bar

Decathlon for the stop watches

RNIB for the talking timer

Thanks again

Phil

Hi Ive just read the posting suggesting the Siesta on this thread instead of the Astra as being very lightly built.
As I mentioned else where I have a Siesta and from what I can see in the photos the fuselage and tail is the same as the Astra and the wing construction also similar so should be the same in terms of strength.
Ive flown in gusty wind without problems, and Im not always expert at landings - as Im sure Martin Bell and co will agree and I havent busted any thing -yet.
I think the Siesta is a good little aeroplane and certainly performs better than I can.

Hi John

The comment regarding the Astra being 'lightly built' was mine but the model has been around a while and others with far more experience of it than me say the same.

Here for example:

(Rui Silva)

Its not a criticism - its an observation and as the AUW (of mine) is only 625gr for conventional construction it could hardly be otherwise.

In terms of wing strength an FVK Organic it is not but then it is only a third of the price.

be lucky

I'm in the same position of wanting to dip a toe into height-limited comps without spending the earth; not wanting to go the foam route; hopefully capable of handling fragile stuff so I've been reading this thread with a lot of interest.

West Wales Models now has a different <2m soarer - aileron equipped 'Bliss':
http://www.westwalesmodels.co.uk/epages/es114103.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/es114103_es121994722150/Products/%2202061T%20ARF%22

and I see Steve Mettam flags up a couple of his models as suitable - 'Climax Compact' and 'Callista':
http://www.modellhaus.co.uk/acatalog/El ... iders.html

Does anyone have experience of any of these, please, or other non-foam cheapie suggestions not already on the thread?

Nick

Welcome to eSoaring!

I've just spotted that there's presently a Pulsar 2m advertised on the "For sale" board. Not sure if it falls into the category of what you would consider inexpensive, but of course it already comes with many of the parts you'd have to buy if you went for a new model. The Pulsar is a great light weather 2m model and I wish I hadn't sold mine last year!

Hope to see you at a comp soon.

Brett

PS Nick - Just checked "for sale" board again. The Pulsar is offered inclusive with all servos, decent motor, ESC and Spektrum Rx. If you fly Spektrum this could be a useful route to go. (I have no connection with the sale by the way!)
