Hello All

Moving to SUNDAY for the comp this weekend, mainly for operational reasons, the weather looks OK for the weekend. Hope to see you all then.

Taking entries until Sat 18:00, if there are any more of you out there.

Regards

Mike

Hello All

Well, what a day? Certainly the hotest of the year so far and fairly inclement for hay fever sufferers!

From the fact that 4 people got there before me, it was obvious that some serious test flying was literally in-the-air and even more so that the air was good from relatively low down, combined with a cloudless blue sky which could be tricky for visibility.
An early question was whether or not to lower the launch height, which I have never done and the results have always vindicated that decision, others have lowered the launch height and changed it back after lunch, which I did not want to have to do! However, the decision was made and it made the day a good challenge. I suspect that everybody relaunched at some point, in a poor slot, some to good effect and some otherwise!! Despite a nagging thought that it was all going to go for a ball of chalk later in the afternoon, the last slot was still lifting models nicely. Steve flew a massive distance away, even for him and later in the flight he hit enormous lift, which looked to be lifting the model faster that the motor ever could. (Hoping to get a climb rate read-out)
I had a landing "incident" when scratching to get back to the spot the model lifted bodily with full brakes and easily cleared my head. Unfortunately, Martyn was standing behind timing and as I was forcing the nose ven more down he took to his heels and started to try outrun the oncoming (slow) missile, which seemed to have his name on it. Fortunately he quickly realised that the ground was the place to be and tested his latest hip-joint by throwing himself on it! I managed to land safely beyond his prone figure but he still managed to stop the watch at the right time! What a star!!!!
Dave had the motor pull out of his model on the climb, following a prop blade departing the hub and a group of wombles found it after the comp. So a very good day with some excellent low level thermalling, giving a good competition. Nice see Fozzy come 3rd in his debut electric event.
Lots more stories but before I fall asleep from testing too many Father's Day presents, here are the results, with thanks to all who flew and helped.
