We are again running a Winter series starting in November 2017 and finishing in April 2018 – 6 rounds. This event will be open to anyone using a Height Limiter equipped model

2 Classes will be run – Open (max span 4 metre) and 2 metre.
2 metre models may be flown in either event but a single set of scores cannot be submitted for both classes. In the same month, a second set of scores can be submitted for the other class.

Rules.
Pilots may fly AT ANY TIME during the month.

If you have not entered any of the previous competitions in this series, please express interest in taking part by adding your name to this thread. Please ensure that you provide your email address, your location and your REAL name.

WORLD WIDE entries are welcome. (Irrespective of season in your country!)

All results should be sent directly to Ian Cowe – email iacowe@gmail.com , and must be headed HEIGHT LIMITED SCORES – OPEN or HEIGHT LIMITED SCORES – 2 METRE. Results may also be posted to the current thread - SUMMER HEIGHT LIMITED POSTAL RESULTS TOPIC. The latest time for submission is 10pm on the last day of each month. (Local time.) An Excel spreadsheet for each class can be obtained from Ian Cowe – email iacowe@gmail.com to make reporting of results easier.

Rules summary.

The height limiter switch should be set to 175 metres.

No entry fee is required. Entrants are permitted ONE attempt per class per calendar month. 3 consecutive flights must be made within a 3-hour time slot and only 1 attempt at each flight is allowed.

A NAMED timekeeper, who can be anybody capable of operating a stopwatch, should time each flight! However, a log of the 3 flights will be accepted as an alternative.

Flight time is measured from the moment the model leaves the hands of the launcher under the pull of the electric drive system. Motor run time must not be more than 30 seconds for the flight to count. This brings the Postal Competitions in line with recent changes for eSoaring.

Each flight in Open is to a 10 minute target, and the actual flight time in seconds is taken as the score for that flight. Flights in excess of 10 minutes will be penalised by the deduction of 1 point per second of excess flight time up to 10 m inutes 30 seconds. Flights in excess of 10 minutes 30 seconds will score zero. In 2M, the target is 8 minutes and flights in excess of 8 minutes will be penalised by the deduction of 1 point per second of excess flight time up to 8 minutes 30 seconds. Flights in excess of 8 minutes 30 seconds will score zero

A landing bonus will be allocated by measuring the distance from a fixed landing spot to the nose of the model in “normal” paces of not more than 1 metre. The number of paces (metres) that the model’s nose is from the “spot” is then deducted from 51 to provide the landing bonus figure. (e.g. a landing 10 metres from the spot gains a landing bonus of 51 – 10 = 41 points). Any landing more than 50 metres from the spot scores ZERO landing bonus, but the flight time stands.

After 4 rounds have been completed each competitor’s lowest score will be dropped in subsequent rounds. This means that only the best 4 from 6 possible scores will count at the close of the competition.

Notes
Once you have started you must complete all 3 flights, without any non-competition flights in-between. You may however alternate your flights with other flyers during the 3-hour window.

A Summer League that starts in November sounds like fun and a great opportunity to fly to comp timing. Perhaps I might even entice a fellow club member or two to try it out.
I'd like to have a go....
Just a question, (because they will ask me....) is it really a top score of 51 for a landing on the spot? I noticed that the results from the Summer league just posted that no-one scored 51 as a landing bonus. So..if a competitor were to land at between 50 and 51, he would get no bonus?

Dave.

Hi Dave

Wondered who would be the first to spot that we were having 2 consecutive summers! After the experiences of 2017, perhaps just calling everything "summer" would at least give us twice as many days to pick good one from!

Landing points start at 50; so the first pace scores 50, etc etc.
Once you get to around 20 paces and have lost the counting plot, just deduct the paces from 51 to get your score. As Ian says, if you land 10 paces away, just deduct from 51 to give your score which is 41.

Look forward to getting some more competitors

Mike
