EXTRA INFORMATION:

Apologies to those to those who have emailed and called this morning! - I completely forgot to post timings for the event. These are not 100% rigid as this is the first event in the South and we are quite prepared to take more time than normal over the preliminaries. Pilot briefing notes for the event are also attached to the bottom of this edited posting for further information.

Timings for the day.

08.30am to 9.30am - Tests & Checks.
09.30am - Pilot Briefing
09.45am - Non-Scoring short round, (5 minutes), for competitors using loan altimeter switches and others who wish to check out limiters and rules.
10.00am - Contest start time
After three or four rounds - 30-minute lunch break.
04.30pm – Contest ends.
05.00pm – Results and Prize giving.

PLEASE do not forget to bring your BMFA membership card or insurance document - also £5.00 entry fee, and for those people who don't own their own altimeter switches, the £5.00 hire fee for the day.

We currently have 18 entries, 4 in the new 2 metre class and 14 in the open class.

Late entries will be accepted and a maximum of 3 entries on the day are possible, subject to positions being available in the flying matrix - but can only be accepted on a "free" Frequency. (or 2.4GHz).

If you are not competing, you are most welcome to come and have a look - but be prepared to be persuaded to join in the next competition!

Entry list below is in FINAL allocated frequency order to enable any last minute entrants to select an unallocated frequency, (or 2.4GHz). Frequencies in bold are changes from original preferred frequencies. Will all pilots please ensure they have there allocated frequencies installed before pilot registration in the day. Pilot Briefing Notes

The contest use and operation of RC Electronics Altimeter Loggers / Switches.

1) Altitude Loggers/Switches must be positioned in the model for easy access, (and removal if necessary), to enable settings to be checked and flight logs downloaded before, during and after the contest day.
2) Any data held in loggers must be cleared before the start of the contest.
3) Data must NOT then be cleared for any reason during the course of the contest day.
4) Power must not be applied to the Altimeter unit until the pilot and model are on the flight line at their allocated launch position.
5) Power should be applied to the altimeter with the model on the ground at it’s launch position or when held at no higher then normal waist height.
6) If during any flight the competitor or his helper/timekeeper suspects that any model is climbing to a greater height than expected, they may ask for that model’s log to be downloaded and checked by the CD or his representative before the model in question is flown again.
7) Any abnormal operation or suspected problem of any kind must be reported to the CD at the earliest possible opportunity.

Altimeter Pro & T1000 units.
In addition to the above requirements, Altimeter Pro units should be positioned away from the receiver.
On no account must T1000 telemetry units be switched on during the course of any contest flight.
If T1000 units are used to download data from the Altimeter Pro unit, then all existing data held in the T1000 must be cleared before the start of the contest.

Reminders.

1) Firmware version 2.04 should be installed in all altimeters. If you have any doubts about this, please ask for your Altimeter unit to be checked and the firmware updated before the start of the contest.
2) Remember to switch you motor off manually as soon as it has cut automatically at 200 metres / 30 seconds. Failure to do so may result in the motor re-starting automatically and will result in a zero score for that round.
3) The rules do NOT at present require the 30 second timer to be set in the altimeter and it is therefore acceptable for your timekeeper to count down the 30 second launch time for the pilot.
4) If the timer is set to 30 seconds as recommended, then there is no requirement for your timekeeper to monitor the motor run time. However, you should remember that the timer starts working as soon as the motor is started. If your model needs a full 30 seconds to reach 200 metres you will thus need to launch immediately after starting the motor.
5) Motors may be test run before launching, but if you do this you MUST then fully close the throttle and wait for 5 seconds for the timer to reset before launching the model.

The Rules.

There are a few things to remember about the rules that may be rather different to other glider / soaring classes.

1) The 11-minute WORKING TIME. You may launch and start your flight AT ANY TIME during this 11-minute flight window.
2) One re-launch is allowed within the working time.
3) You are aiming for a 10-minute TARGET flight time within the 11 minutes. This INCLUDES the launch time. Flight time therefore starts when the model leaves the hand of the launcher under the pull of the motor.
4) If you over-fly the 11-minute working time, you score ZERO for the whole flight.
5) If you over-fly the 10 minute target time, your lose 1 point per second up to 30 seconds. More than 30 seconds over-fly and you score ZERO for that flight.

PLEASE NOTE:
The above is a summary only and intended just to underline the main differences between the eSoaring rules and other classes.

As this is the very first event being held in the South, timings will be very flexible and cannot be guaranteed.

May I wish everyone a good fun day of thermal flying.

Martin Bell - CD

Hi Martin,
Thanks for remembering my entry.
Open class on 88 please and you should have a height limiter for me.
Going to try Mick Barnetts Preditor I purchased from him.
Lookin forward to it, not too many trees are there? Confused

No problem John, I will try to keep you on 88, but we flew all last year on 10kHz spacing (all even & odd number frequencies), with no problems.
I have your altimeter switch ready for you, all set up. Look forward too seeing you again on the 19th.
Martin
