Weather Late afternoon sun was smack upwind and the wind was bumpy, however this was an only opportunity to fly. First flight was mainly done at zero height on the back hedge! For 2nd and 3rd I moved and stood in the lee and shade of the wood. 3rd was eventful as i was turning for landing when I got into an uncontrollable wallow over the cattle pens. Got control back in time to try avoid the birch trees, failed and clattered the top of one, then slid backwards into the pens, all but one of which are smaller than an AVA - and that is where it arrived, breaking only the rudder servo horn!! Retired happy!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, we start a new series for 2019 and welcome back to all those who flew and those, particularly in Scotland, who could not fly because of the weather. Here in York, there was a limited window of opportunity towards the end of the month but even then conditions were not ideal.

In Open we had only three scores recorded. Martyn came first with 1770 flight points ahead of Mike with 1679 and Paul with his new open model third with 1440. This produced normalised scores of 1000, 949 and 814 respectively.

In 2M we had nine scores recorded. Scores were very variable with flights of four or five minutes common. I recorded only two flights having rushed to the flying field just before dark and on my third flight it was obvious that I was in trouble. I lost orientation on the climb and having cut the motor could not tell whether I was spiralling right or left. Eventually I managed to get control and then restarted the motor to get back safely. No one managed a set of scores that did not drop one or more minutes on at least one flight.

Out of the carnage, Mike came first with a flight score of 1426 out of a possible 1590 giving 1000 normalised points. Second was Jon with 1406 flight points giving 986 and third was Dave Langley with 1326 giving 955.

Results are shown below.

Ian
