Hello All

THe SF Nats Entry Form is available via the BMFA website Nationals page, or direct from this link https://bmfa.org/DesktopModules/Bring2m ... TabId=1555

BARCS will also be running ELG on Monday, as a non BMFA event, so you can have a choice of that or Open eSoaring. If you wish to fly in ELG look on the BARCS website for entry details for that competition

Schedule is slightly different from recent years:-

Saturday..... 100S Glider & 2M eSoaring
Sunday ..... F3K & F5J
Monday ..... Open eSoaring & ELG ( NOTE BELOW CHANGES TO TIMETABLE FOR MONDAY'S EVENTS. )

eSOARING - BRIEFING FROM 08:30 / FIRST FLIGHTS FROM 09:00. 4 ROUNDS OCNCLUDING 12:45

ELG - BRIEFING FFOM 12:30 / DIRST FLIGHTS FROM 13:00. 4 ROUNDS OCNCLUDING 16;00

Regards
Mike

I really don’t see any logic in running Esoaring and Barcs ELG on the same day at the Nationals.....this only serves to divide our hobby further.....which committee thought this was a good idea?

Is this the comp that is used an event over which selections for the national team are made? (and also the comp that some would say is not intended for anyone not wishing to try for a team place?)

Trying to do 2 answers in one post.
Steve; a meeting between BARCS and the BMFA(SFTC) early in the year produced an agreement to host one of each others competitions as a way of "spreading the word", you might say. The first attempt was to be at Radio Glide and the second at the sF Nats. Hopefully this one will succeed.

Dave ELG is basically a soaring event with rules not unlike eSoaring; both events are purely domestic UK ones. It is not in any way connected with the Team Trials (in late July) which is to F5J rules for International electric soaring.

Sorry Mike, I entered the open thinking it was an all day comp, now to be told a 1/2 day. Is the entry fee being reduced !!!! Or refunded. One very pissed of competitor.

Long way to go for 1/2 day, & a bit costly for whole day.
Considering giving the whole thing a miss...

With my change in circumstances, was considering having a go at comp flying again.

But who on earth would consider travelling from the Isle of Wight to Buckminster to fly in a 4 round comp?

Not even enough rounds to have a dropped score.

This is supposed to be our National Championship is it not, or have I completely lost the plot?

So count me out.

Hi Paul

Have sent you an email reply. Very sorry that you have been put off flying in the Nats but understand your points.

4 rounds does give a dropped score "more than 3 flown lowest is dicarded"

Apologies for my mistake over the dropped score rounds.

So that makes it actually a 3 scoring round contest. Just what we need for a National Championship.

I thought the whole competition concept was to consistently achieve good scores.

And at the entry fee that works out at £5 per scoring flight, the National Lottery would be a better bet.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this ludicrous state of affairs.

EDIT
Just to reiterate my position on this. Although I had not yet entered I had an option on accommodation with a relative that would have put me 2 hours drive away. In light of this fiasco, I have cancelled the option. At least I am not in the position of asking for my entry fees back on the basis that the comp is not as advertised on the entry form.

It certainly makes me rethink my possible return to competition flying just at a time when I was getting another Club member warmed up to join in.
