Enteries are invited for the 5th Midland Region F5j competition of 2021 at Fish Meadow
Upton Upon Severn (with thanks to the Malvern Soaring Association) on Sunday 17th October 2021

Fish Meadow is at Upton Upon Severn, Worcestershire. Upton is situated on the banks of the river Severn
and lies mid-way between the towns of Tewkesbury and Malvern. It is close to exit 1 on the M50 motorway.
On leaving the Motorway at exit 1 take the A38 north for three miles, in the direction of Worcester to the staggered
junction with the A4104 at Bluebell Farm and signed to Upton upon Severn. Turn left on the A4104. In 1 mile you
gain access to the flying field via a slip road (just after the small boat with flowers at the side of the road) just past
the Marina.
The slip road runs parallel to the main road with the bridge and toward the river follow the slip road slowly and
go to the right at the end keep on and go down the slope and through the tunnel this then opens out to Fish Meadow
Access is usually controlled via a locked barrier but this will be open on the day 8:30am to 10:00am and again in
the afternoon.
PLEASE USE THE TRACK AROUND THE EDGE OF THE FIELD TO ACCESS THE COMP SITE
A post code of WR8 0PB will put you on the slip road but do not turn left halfway down into East Waterside

8:30 to 9:30 Signing on, flight testing altimeter checks where required.
9:45 Pilot Briefing
10:00 projected comp start time.
after three or perhaps four rounds- 30 minute lunch break
4:30 Competition ends
5:00 results prize giving.

A £5 entry fee is payable at signing in please
A loan- approved h/l switch can be provided if needed.
Covid precautions ..... social distancing and common sense please. Hand wash is
available but better to carry your own.

The comp start time was delayed by 1/2 hour to allow the fine rain and low cloud base to improve.
As the weather forecast for the day was correct wind speeds slowly increased to gusts of moderate strength.
This caused some pilots problems getting back to the spot (such is life!).
With two slots per round competitors were either flying or timekeeping so it was a busy day but apparently
was enjoyed by all.
With no good thermal lift it was a minimum sink day trying to find better air to stretch out the flight time.

Thanks for your hard work this season Ian.

These comps don't just happen they have to be organised and I think you have done a great job in running them efficiently which has given enjoyment to all those who have flown in them.

Lets hope for some good flying weather for the comps next season!
