Hi All

It is almost certain that we will be using Sunday for this event as the weather forecast on Saturday has remained quite steady in predicting rain and high gust speeds.
Sunday looks reasonably good and without rain.

I will confirm the comp day tomorrow by early afternoon as usual.
Entries until teatime the day before the comp as usual.
Regards
Mike

Managed to stay awake despite having to test Father's Day chocolates and brandy before writing this - it's the least one can do!!!

WEather was more or less as forecast, with wind around 10mph, rising for the last 2 or 3 slots to nearer 15. It produced some interesting turbulence which affected both general flying and certainly when landing in the stronger gusts. In the best/worst slot the out-field was littered with models which didn't quite make it to the tape; only Martyn got landing points thereby making the rest of us look more silly than we already did!!
Early slots were flown in generally good conditions and consequently they were maxed-out but most launches were in the 150+ range, as the prospect of picking up low lift in the breeze and then flying to a height from which a return from downwind was more or less guaranteed, was not good! One or two people had a nice walk to collect their "belongings". AFter lunch, running 2 slot rounds left time for such luxuries, lift conditions became more tricky, some slots were absolutely "dead" with 5mins being a good score while others were generating lift capable of hauling models to cloudbase, which in places was none too high! Still others needed much searching to struggle a 7min result.
So, on the whole a good day of mixed conditions for F5J. John Cuthbert put in a good set of flights to come 6th with a 2m model. Steve won but without winning all his slots for once; Simon has yet to beat him but gets closer and closer. One or 2 technical problems occurred but nothing was damaged and at last we had an F5J event in 2018! Special thanks to Ian and Margaret for timing and scoring.
